Cheryl J. Travers, "Reflective Goal Setting: An Applied Approach to Personal and Leadership Development"
English | ISBN: 3030992276 | 2022 | 211 pages | EPUB | 1129 KB
This book presents, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of the Reflective Goal Setting model, its theoretical framework and origins, and its practical applications for personal development, improved coping and reduced stress, academic growth and performance and leadership.

Divided into three parts, the author begins by examining the particular importance of personal development, and in particular soft and interpersonal skills development. It addresses the limitations of current personal development and leadership education and training for the transfer of learning, before outlining how Reflective Goal Setting fulfils this need. It presents a critical review of Goal Setting Theory and approaches to reflective practice that demonstrates how the Reflective Goal Setting model was developed from, and builds upon, these earlier approaches. Drawing on original research and illustrative case studies, the author details the cyclical five step process of the Reflective Goal Setting model across 5 chapters - forming Part 2 of the book. Part 3 examines the practical applications and impact of using Reflective Goal Setting, employing illustrative case studies from a variety of settings including higher education, professional development and executive education.

Reflective Planning Practice by Richard Willson
English | October 20, 2020 | ISBN: 0367258684 | 344 pages | PDF | 44 Mb
Reflective Planning Practice: Theory, Cases, and Methods uses structured, first-person reflection to reveal the artistry of planning practice. The value of professional reflection is widely recognized, but there is a difference between acknowledging it and doing it. This book takes up that challenge, providing planners' reflections on past practice as well as prompts for reflecting in the midst of planning episodes. It explains a reflection framework and employs it in seven case studies written by planning educators who also practice. The cases reveal practical judgments made during the planning episode and takeaways for practice, as the planners used logic and emotion, and applied convention and invention. The practical judgments are explained from the perspective of the authors' personal experiences, purposes, and professional style, and their interpretation of the rich context that underpins the cases including theories, sociopolitical aspects, workplace setting, and roles. The book seeks to awaken students and practitioners to the opportunities of a pragmatic, reflective approach to planning practice.

Reflexive Governance in EU Equality Law
by Emma Lantschner
English | 2022 | ISBN: 0192843370 | 480 Pages | True ePUB | 1.16 MB

The Covid-19 pandemic has revealed how far we as a European society still are from the proclaimed Union of Equality. The book explores how the promise of equal treatment can become a reality and compliance with the EU acquis relating to equality and non-discrimination can be improved. It studies enforcement and promotion aspects of the two watershed directives of 2000, the Racial Equality Directive 2000/43/EC and the Employment Equality Directive 2000/78/EC, through the lens of reflexive governance. This governance approach is proposed as having great potential in enhancing the likelihood of sustainability (or continuation) of reforms in the current candidate countries and EU Member States through its emphasis on reflexive learning processes and the cooperation between EU institutions, national authorities, and civil society actors.
In order to deploy this potential, there is, however, a need for more consistent and transparent monitoring, both with regard to candidate countries as well as old and new Member States, and a reconsideration of the understanding of monitoring as such. It should be seen as helping to deconstruct own preference-formations and as a possibility to learn from successes and failures in a cooperative and recursive process. To work on these lacunae and improve learning and monitoring processes, this book identifies indicators, that are deduced from the comparative review of the implementation practice of the member states. This book is thus a contribution to the existing literature in the fields of Europeanization, governance, and the right to equality and non-discrimination.

Clifford Winston, "Reforming Occupational Licensing in the US: Reducing Social Costs and Increasing Social Benefits in the Legal, Medical, "
English | ISBN: 3031743482 | 2024 | 180 pages | EPUB | 1172 KB
Nearly one-third of US workers must obtain a license from a government agency to perform their jobs legally. This impacts employees across all areas, including lawyers, doctors, and accountants, as well as florists, hairdressers, physical therapists, and plumbers. The justification for occupational licensing is that potential consumers allegedly lack the information and knowledge to judge the competence of a service provider. This necessitates a licensing system built to ensure that customers are served by people who have received adequate training and certification in their profession.

While there are recognizable benefits of occupational licensing, the training and certification requirements create barriers to entry for employees or those entering the profession. These barriers can limit competition, raise service costs, and restrict consumer access to essential services. Recent empirical work suggests that consumers have incurred these costs without being adequately protected from incompetent or unscrupulous service providers. This book addresses this situation head on.

Lara Momesso, "Refugees and Asylum Seekers in East Asia: Perspectives from Japan and Taiwan "
English | ISBN: 9819728665 | 2024 | 418 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
This edited volume fills a gap in current research on asylum seekers and refugees. By focusing on two East Asian countries, Japan and Taiwan, this volume offers material for comparison and reflection on an area of the world in which this theme is still relatively underdeveloped. By approaching the theme through the different perspectives of human rights, social construction through media representation and public opinion, and lived experiences, the book offers a multifaceted and sophisticated analysis of the phenomenon. The main aim of this collection is to expand current scholarship on refugee studies and offer policy recommendations on the timely topic of refugee and asylum seekers in East Asia.

Denard Veshi, "Refugees and the Law in Challenging Times - A Law and Economics Approach"
English | ISBN: 303161142X | 2024 | 214 pages | EPUB | 1168 KB
This book focuses on the economic analysis of refugee law and the protection of refugee rights. It offers a law and economics model applied to migration and states. The book focuses on the most critical 'push' factors that impact lawmakers in enacting and modifying asylum law. Furthermore, the book examines the economic advantages and disadvantages of a centralized supernational asylum law (acquis communautaire) that could, eventually, eliminate competition between legal orders in asylum law and do away with the negative externalities caused by 'asylum shopping'.

The book critically analyses international refugee law, pursuing an interdisciplinary approach. Its principal goal is to explore refugee law through the lenses of the law and economics approach and against the backdrop of a human rights approach. After explaining the evolution of the human rights approach, the book elaborates on the legal and economic factors that impact refugees, on the one hand, and public policy, on the other. In conclusion, a balance that considers the national preferences of destination countries and the protection of refugee rights is proposed.

Regenerating Learning: Transforming How You Learn with Generative AI (Design Thinking) by Patrick Parra Pennefather
English | January 1, 2025 | ISBN: 8868810603 | 565 pages | MOBI | 27 Mb
The perfect storm of learning provoked by generative AI is not just about learning how to use the technology to change human patterns of work and life. The technologies are re-orienting how we think we learn, what we learn, what we need to learn, when and where we learn about knowledge production, how humans communicate with each other, the economic, social, political, creative, ethical and technological factors that inform how we navigate human influenced existence on this planet.

The technology empowers you to reimagine and reinvent how you learn while doing your work. Just like you can regenerate content persistently using generative AI systems, so too can you regenerate what and how you learn. Regenerating Learning will help guide the small team you are a part of, or influence leadership to leverage generative AI systems responsibly.
Besides pointing to all the more obvious benefits of learning how to use generative AI systems more effectively, this book provides use cases, research and educational theory to propose that interacting with the technology leads to a number of unanticipated learning outcomes. These outcomes challenge the very way in which we have come to learn, what we have learned, and what we may need to unlearn. As generative AI becomes increasingly integrated within workplace environments at some point or other we will each need to decide if we are going to use the technology and how.
What You will Learn
* Methods and techniques to re-learn how you learn through your interactions with different generative AI.
* Strategic approaches to integrate generative AI within your workflows.
* How to iterate, adapt, prototype and learn continuously with generative AI.
* A variety of tools and approaches to reconcile your organization's use of generative AI.
* How to develop a road map towards the integration of AI systems within your organization.
Who this Book Is For
Creatives, team leaders, managers and leadership in different organizations; teams in collaborative and creative industries; managers and employees in organizational learning

Johannes Muntschick, "Regionalism in Africa and External Partners: Uneven Relationships and "
English | ISBN: 3031107012 | 2022 | 266 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
This volume offers systematic research on regionalism in Africa and explores the role and impact of external partners on the dynamics, institutional design, and performance of regional integration projects. It acknowledges and elaborates the multilevel and multidimensional nature of regionalism, with its variety of cooperative institutions and policy areas, while closely considering uneven relationships to external actors in African regional organizations. The book's two comprehensive mapping studies examine patterns of asymmetric inter-dependence between regionalism in Africa and external partners in Europe, with a focus on trade and donor funding, and highlight structural imbalances and (un)intended consequences. Five additional case studies provide in-depth analyses of a variety of African regional organizations, mainly with a focus on security regionalism, and elaborate how external partners influence and affect integration processes and projects. Although regionalism in Africabenefitted from external relations and partnerships with Europe, contributions in this volume question this positive impression, highlighting some of the major undermining factors and actors.

Ancui Liu, "Regulating Genetically Modified Crops in View of Environmental Risks: China's Implementation of International Obligation"
English | ISBN: 9811924791 | 2022 | 249 pages | EPUB | 382 KB
This book analyzes international and Chinese regulatory approaches addressing environmental risks that may be caused by GM crops and examines how China implements its international obligations in its policies and laws. Using the legal doctrinal method, the book discusses the precautionary principle and the public involvement principle, as well as several legal measures at the international law level and in Chinese law. It observes that legal principles and measures as provided for in China's GMO legal framework have generally implemented the international obligations regarding the prevention of environmental risks that may be caused by the cultivation of GM crops and related activities. However, the book argues that Chinese law lacks an explicit codification of the precautionary principle, and the same is true with regard to public participation; the regulatory framework lacks specific obligations. It concludes that future research should focus on the application and enforcement of therelevant Chinese legislation, and that it is also important to investigate how the environmental risks that may be caused by new techniques, such as genome-editing techniques, could be prevented, given the experience gained by regulating the cultivation of GM crops and related activities.

Adeyinka Adewale, "Reimaging Africa: Lifting the Veil of Ignorance "
English | ISBN: 3031403592 | 2023 | 183 pages | EPUB | 373 KB
This book, through a politico-historical analysis, aims to provide a more balanced perspective regarding the nature of Africa's relations with other global regions. It emphasizes the sophisticated nature of pre-colonial African politico-historical commentaries often overlooked or simplified. As such, the narrative avoids the usual misrepresentations which impress that African-European interactions are a history of European actions in an Africa generally devoid of anything similar to the cultures, institutions and abilities of Europe. Further, it contests the historical narrative that indigenous Africans have had no real active role vis-à-vis an assertive, dominating Europe in historical times. Within this book, the contestation of such narratives with evidence-based counter perspectives is of particular benefit for our current educational, social and political contexts.

Covid-19 has had a continuing impact on marginalized and racialized communities at all levels. We are now witnessing the compounded effects in the form of a worsening mental health and addiction crisis and its subsequent impact on children's education, service delivery, and overall psychosocial well-being.

This book explores emerging populations of mobile international students in order to consider innovative and inclusive approaches for a more equitable and socially just higher education for new generations of international students. It offers critical reflections on the intersections of race, place, and space at universities hosting international students across multiple geographic and cultural contexts. The volume is designed to catalyze debate on how international student learning and exchange needs to be reimagined for new generations of students in a world of increasing complexity and virtual mobility. International student mobility in higher education is intended to serve as an educational experience that speaks to the need for more interculturally sensitive and globally competent learners. However, internationalization practices like study abroad have increasingly been influenced by neoliberalism, and dynamics of commodification and consumerism, emphasizing the private benefits of such experiences in terms of the social and economic benefits to individual participants. This raises the question of inequality in such internationalization practices; who is benefitting from it? As post-secondary institutions around the world become more and more internationalized, what are the undesirable effects of these developments? Given the rapid expansion of research on both internationalization and inequality in higher education, it is foreseeable that this book will become a much-referenced text within the field and profession.

Zehavit Gross, "Reimagining the Landscape of Religious Education: Challenges and Opportunities"
English | ISBN: 3031201329 | 2023 | 297 pages | EPUB | 821 KB
This book brings together new thinking and research on religious education's complex and evolving role in the multicultural, diverse postmodern era. It facilitates new realism and understanding of the current situation from empirical and reflective accounts relating to a variety of countries and political contexts, as well as providing innovative methodological approaches to the study of education and religion.

In different contexts around the world, at different levels of education, and from different theoretical lenses, religious education occupies a contested space. The ongoing, changing nature of the world due to increasing secularization, rapid technological change, mass immigration, globalization processes, conflict and challenging security issues, from inter to intra state levels, and with shifting geopolitical power balances, generates the need to reconceptualize where religious education is positioned. It claims that religious education on its own can be an agent of moral, social and spiritual transformation are disputed. There is significant controversy about whether special religious education, that is in-faith education, still has a role within the post-modern world.

Juan Carlos Rodriguez Camacho, "Relatuhedron: A machine of possibilities"
English | ISBN: 3030872076 | 2022 | 189 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
A journey of new routes of healing with/by Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants is shared under the Two Eyed-Seeing Perspective of Elder Albert Marshall. The Universal Human Right of Indigenous self-determination and Relationality are the togetherness presented in a "mangrove tree" that lives between salty and sweet waters emerging as a protective place of rich ecosystems. The relatuhedron (shapes of relationality) a co-construction of a home, a Wigwam, Long House, Maloca, Ue, crystalizes knowledge and practices in the process of individual and community healing and cultural transactions. A set of neologisms such as relatuhedron, pedagomiologies, and social grammars, is proposed to challenge our views of mental health, healing, cultural transactions, stereotypes, recovery, and public policy and include simplicities and complexities required to support Indigenous well-being. It is a "machine of possibilities" for students and professionals working with/by and for Indigenous communities. In this book healing is presented as a process through scholarly practice and reflection. Healing is a process of emergence of meaning by improving relationality with the self, nature and others, in a practical approach to socio-cultural transformations. In sum, healing is based on individual and community processes both honoring and respective Indigenous knowledge and scientific research to create endless opportunities for well-being. This book presents healing as a process of growth, a complex, dynamic and evolutive journey of transforming how we stablish and maintain relationships with the self, nature and others inside of our cultural negotiations.
