Ken Akiba, "Indeterminacy, Vagueness, and Truth: The Boolean Many-Valued Approach "
English | ISBN: 3031741749 | 2024 |160 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
This book shows that the assumption that classical logic is essentially a bivalent (i.e., 2-valued) logic, a logic of truth and falsity, is an incorrect and harmful conception. Classical logic is certainly a Boolean logic, and the smallest (non-degenerate) Boolean algebra is the 2-element Boolean algebra; however, there are numerous Boolean algebras that have more than 2 elements, such as the 4-, 8-, 16-, ..., infinite-element Boolean algebra, and they all work equally well for the semantics of classical logic. Contrary to the popular thought, there is such a thing as classical (or Boolean) many-valued logic. The book applies this logic to solve such philosophical problems as the Fission Problem for personal identity, the Sorites Paradox, and the Liar Paradox. All these problems concern situations that involve indeterminacy or vagueness, situations where there seems 'no fact of the matter' that makes the relevant sentences true or false, thus requiring truth value gaps between truth and falsity. Because of that, classical logic has been thought to be an inadequate tool to deal with the problems. This book, however, offers solutions to those problems by retaining classical logic but assigning intermediate Boolean values to the relevant sentences. The book is of great value to researchers and graduate students in philosophy, especially for those who are interested in the philosophical issues surrounding indeterminacy, vagueness, and truth.

English | June 3rd, 2025 | ISBN: 0691221227 | 712 pages | True EPUB | 76.09 MB
A dazzling new history of the Indian subcontinent and its diverse peoples in global context-from antiquity to today

Much of world history is Indian history. Home today to one in four people, the subcontinent has long been densely populated and deeply connected to Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas through migration and trade. In this magisterial history, Audrey Truschke tells the fascinating story of the region historically known as India-which includes today's India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and parts of Afghanistan-and the people who have lived there.
A sweeping account of five millennia, from the dawn of the Indus Valley Civilization to the twenty-first century, this engaging and richly textured narrative chronicles the most important political, social, religious, intellectual, and cultural events. And throughout, it describes how the region has been continuously reshaped by its astonishing diversity, religious and political innovations, and social stratification.
Here, readers will learn about Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Islam, and Sikhism; the Vedas and Mahabharata; Ashoka and the Mauryan Empire; the Silk Road; the Cholas; Indo-Persian rule; the Mughal Empire; European colonialism; national independence movements; the 1947 Partition of India; the recent rise of Hindu nationalism; the challenges of climate change; and much more. Emphasizing the diversity of human experiences on the subcontinent, the book presents a wide range of voices, including those of women, religious minorities, lower classes, and other marginalized groups.
You cannot understand India today without appreciating its deeply contested history, which continues to drive current events and controversies. A comprehensive and innovative book, India is essential reading for anyone who is interested in the past, present, or future of the subcontinent.

Dhiman Chattopadhyay, "Indian Journalism and the Impact of Social Media "
English | ISBN: 3031073177 | 2022 | 282 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
This book is a pan-India study that examines social media's impact on Indian journalism, highlights emerging challenges, and discusses the way forward for India's newsrooms. A result of three years of field work, the project uses mixed-methods research - a survey of nearly 300 journalists from 15 Indian cities, followed by in-depth interviews with 25 senior editors - to analyze and explain journalists' perceptions about social media's usefulness and credibility, factors that influence their online news sourcing and sharing decisions, resultant challenges for newsrooms, and ways to address those challenges. The findings offer unique insights into how newer forces are influencing journalistic practices in an online-first era. Key differences emerge in perceptions between Indian journalists and their Western compatriots about who or what influence their actions. The findings also raise questions about Gatekeeping as a term to describe journalistic work in 21st Century India's newsrooms. The findings and the conclusions will hopefully help journalists, educators, and anyone interested in Indian journalism gain a deeper, more meaningful understanding about social media's impact on Indian journalism, and the way ahead for India's newsrooms.

Dominic O'Sullivan, "Indigeneity, Culture and the UN Sustainable Development Goals "
English | ISBN: 981990580X | 2023 | 291 pages | EPUB | 476 KB
This is the first scholarly book to examine the UN Sustainable Development Goals from an indigenous perspective and, specifically, with reference to the right to self-determination. It refers to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and domestic instruments such as New Zealand's Tiriti o Waitangi to suggest how the goals could be revised to support self-determination as a more far-reaching and ambitious project than the goals imagine in their current form. The book primarily draws its material from Australia, Canada, and New Zealand to support analysing the goals' policy relevance to wealthy states and the political claims that indigenous peoples make in established liberal democracies.

Maria Chiara D'Argenio, "Indigenous Descriptions in Twenty-First Century Latin American Cinema"
English | ISBN: 3030939138 | 2022 | 299 pages | EPUB | 9 MB
In this engaging book, Maria Chiara D'Argenio delineates a turn in recent Latin American filmmaking towards inter/cultural feature films made by non-Indigenous directors. Aimed at a global audience, but played by Indigenous actors, these films tell Indigenous stories in Indigenous languages. Over the last two decades, a growing number of Latin American films have screened the Indigenous experience by combining the local and the global in a way that has proved appealing at international film festivals.

Locating the films in composite webs of past and present traditions and forms, Indigenous Descriptions in Twenty-First Century Latin American Cinema examines the critical reflection offered by recent inter/cultural films and the socio-cultural impact, if any, they might have had. Through the analysis of a selection of films produced between 2006 and 2019, the book gauges the extent to which non-Indigenous directors who set out to engage critically with colonial legacies and imaginaries, as well as with contemporary Indigenous marginalization, succeed in addressing these concerns by 'unthinking' and 'undoing' Western centrism and coloniality.

Adrian Albala, "Indigenous Political Representation in Latin America "
English | ISBN: 3031339134 | 2023 | 268 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
This book presents a comparative analysis of the struggles of Latin American indigenous peoples for effective representation in national political systems in the region. Through a detailed exploration of the political dynamics of indigenous groups and examples of mechanisms of political representation, the studies in this book reveal how power relations, cleavages and indigenous civil society organizations are essential to our understanding of indigenous political participation. These studies closely inspect how collective action builds up at local level in grassroots organizations, and how it then articulates or not with larger mechanisms of regional and national political representation, providing a more comprehensive and comparative assessment of why and when representation works and fails for indigenous people.

Pauline W. U. Chinn, "Indigenous STEM Education: Perspectives from the Pacific Islands, the Americas and Asia, Volume 1 "
English | ISBN: 3031304500 | 2023 | 310 pages | EPUB | 8 MB
This book explores ways in which systems of local knowledge, culture, language, and place are foundational for STEM learning in Indigenous communities. It is part of a two-volume set that addresses a growing recognition that interdisciplinary, cross-cultural and cross-hybrid learning is needed to foster scientific and cultural understandings and move STEM learning toward more just and sustainable futures for all learners.

Themes of learning from elders, through practice and place-based experiences are found across cultures. Each chapter brings a uniquely Indigenous point of view to the educational transformation efforts taking place in these distinct contexts. In the second section the chapters use authentic research stories to explain many ways in which regular disciplinary policies and practices can impact Indigenous students' participation in STEM classrooms and careers. These authors go on to discuss ways to engage learners in STEM activities that are interconnected with the contexts of their lives.

Christophe Dorigné-Thomson, "Indonesia's Engagement with Africa "
English | ISBN: 9819966507 | 2023 | 591 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
This book provides a comprehensive study of Indonesia's contemporary foreign policy engagement with Africa, highlighting the archipelago's recent reawakening to the continent. It explores thoughts on Afro-Asian relations in general and their future in the changing geopolitical context. It provides a vision of Indonesia's foreign policy and political situation at the highest level of leadership. It places Indonesia in a multi-comparison context, which helps us reconsider Indonesia today and widens our views on Indonesia's needs to be better known through new perspectives and voices able to better convey the realities of its polity, aspirations, and complexities. It proposes, through the study of Indonesia's African endeavour, to better grasp the contemporary Indonesian Zeitgeist and Weltanschauung. It also analyses the political power alliance formed by President Jokowi and former General Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, leading a state-led developmentthrough state capitalism, mobilising State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). The Bandung Conference host aspires to project its domestic development achievements towards Africa, focusing on Africa for Africa and not merely as part of a sometimes-abstract Afro-Asian discourse. Nonetheless, Afro-Asianism continues to be mobilised to facilitate market penetration and serve domestic interests.

Kiki Verico, "Indonesia's International Economic Strategies"
English | ISBN: 9819984572 | 2024 | 314 pages | EPUB | 9 MB
This book discusses Indonesia's international economic strategies. It examines unilateral aspects, foreign direct investments, bilateral economic relations, regional elements, ASEAN's role, and the Indo-Pacific's dynamic frameworks.

Starting at the unilateral level, the book outlines how Indonesia managed its macro-economy to recover quickly and adequately from 2020 to 2021 amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic. It argues that Indonesia needs an open economic principle to enhance trade and investment relations. In addition, the book elaborates on how Indonesia transforms its economy with export-oriented long-run investment (Foreign Direct Investment) inflows as a necessary condition for economic transformation as it fits with Indonesia's manufacturing sector, which is critical to the country. Further, the book thoroughly explains Indonesia's bilateral economic relations, from its production networks with Indonesia's major partners to their impacts. It highlights the products which will provide enormous potential benefits for the country.
