By contrast, Bosnia's constitution was written, quite literally, overnight in a military hanger in Dayton, USA, to conclude a devastating war. By most standards it does not work and is seen to have merely frozen a conflict and all development with it. What might these seemingly unrelated countries be able to teach each other? Britain, racked by recent crises from Brexit to national separatism, may be able to avert long-term political conflict by understanding the pitfalls of writing rigid constitutional rules without popular participation or the cultivation of good political culture. Bosnia, in turn, may be able to thaw its frozen conflict by subjecting parts of its written constitution to amendment, with civic involvement, on a fixed and regular basis; a 'revolving constitution' to replicate some of that flexibility inherent in the British system. A book not just about Bosnia and Britain; a standard may be set for other plural, multi-ethnic polities to follow.

Timber connections with inclined screws are state-of-the-art and widely used. Due to their inclination regarding the shear plane, inclined screws are practically only loaded in tension. The load-carrying capacity of connections with inclined screws can be increased because of friction in the shear plane. This work investigates surface modifications to increase the friction between connecting parts. Friction tests with the manufactured surfaces and softwood showed increased friction coefficients compared to untreated surfaces. Tests with connections with modified surfaces in the shear plane showed increased load-carrying capacities and stiffness values. An analytical model predicts the load-carrying capacity well for different surfaces and friction coefficients, screw lengths, and numbers. Overall, this work provides insights into the short-term and long-term behaviour of connections with inclined screws and increased friction in the shear plane.

This work is an in-depth study on the philosophy of Madhva, the Dvaita Vedānta. The Dvaita tradition, which chronologically comes after Advaita and Viśiṣṭādvaita, is one of the great Vedāntic schools. Madhva was a Hindu philosopher of the 12th century belonging to the Vaiṣṇava tradition, and emphatically established that Viṣṇu alone is the focal point of entire Vedic writings by employing an unparalleled hermeneutical technique known as "parama-mukhya-vṛtti" (the super-primary meaning) in all his writings. This study unearths this singular concept with the help of Madhva's commentaries and related Dvaita literature. The book explores Madhva's method of hermeneutics and exegetical patterns. It focuses on the first chapter of Brahmasūtras and Madhva's application of parama-mukhya-vṛtti. It further discusses the hermeneutical issues in some commentaries and independent works of Madhva. The work suggests steps to apply parama-mukhya-vṛtti to different religious texts, taking into account many Western continental thinkers who strike a chord with the thinking of Madhva. It employs an exegetico-interpretative method, and approaches Madhva's original writings, particularly the notion of parama-mukhya-vṛtti, through exegesis, showing its relevance through interpretation. This research will open up wide horizons by providing a new methodology to interpret the sacred texts of any religious traditions. It will also contribute to Madhva scholarship by stimulating scholarly exchanges, discussions and deliberations. Moreover, it will facilitate inter-religious dialogue and understanding, particularly in the multi-religious context of India.

This book revitalizes the Marxian concept of critique for research into the transformation of universities. It consists of a set of comprehensive and interconnected theoretical tools, starting from the reflection on the political ontology of higher education, through the critique of political economy of the sector to the analysis of activist struggles within the universities, and back to the ontological concept of the common - a foundation for the university alternative design. The tools offered and discussed in context throughout the book allow for a productive use in overcoming the current crisis of the university, as well as to avoid the pitfalls present in contemporary debates around it. Unlike the dominant discussions on the university in crisis, the authors argue that to grasp its nature, one has to reach more profound than the level of appearances such as marketization and commodification.
Szadkowski and Krzeski offer a compelling reappraisal of critique as a mechanism to liberate intellectual work. By linking critique to how knowledge is structured and commodified, they help us transcend reductionist narratives of a crisis-ridden University. Prioritising ontological renewal, they embrace the political and the common, enriching our collective ways of knowing the world as a movement. Pivoting around academic and student protests in Poland, the book enables us to imagine spaces and times of critical hope that resist the capitalist subjugation of intellectual activity to knowledge production.
