Quantitative Energy Finance: Recent Trends and Developments by Fred Espen Benth, Almut E. D. Veraart
English | March 9, 2024 | ISBN: 3031505964 | 278 pages | MOBI | 41 Mb
Power markets are undergoing a major transformation from gas and oil-fueled generation toward renewable electricity production from wind and solar sources. Simultaneously, there is an increasing demand for electrification, coupled with long-term climate-induced weather changes. The uncertainties confronting energy market participants require sophisticated modelling techniques to effectively understand risk, many of which are covered in this book.

Comprising invited papers by high-profile researchers, this volume examines the empirical aspects of forward and futures prices, uncovering patterns of noise factors in various European electricity markets. Additionally, it delves into the recent, influential classes of Hawkes and trawl processes, emphasizing their significance in energy markets. The impact of renewables on energy market prices is a pivotal concern for both producers and consumers. Mean-field games provide a powerful mathematical framework for this, and a dedicated chapter outlining their dynamics is included in the book. The book also explores structural financial products and their connection to climate risk as a risk management tool, underscoring the essential need for a comprehensive understanding of these products in the realm of "green finance," to which the energy industry is integral. Lastly, the book thoroughly analyzes spatial smoothing and power purchase (PPA) contracts, addressing central issues in energy system planning and financial operations.
Tailored for researchers, PhD students, and industry energy analysts, this volume equips readers with insights and tools to navigate the constantly evolving energy market landscape. It serves as a sequel to the earlier Quantitative Energy Finance book, featuring all-new chapters.

Quantum Mechanics: A Modern Development (2nd Edition)
English | 2015 | ISBN: 9814578576 | 739 Pages | PDF (True) | 5 MB
Although there are many textbooks that deal with the formal apparatus of quantum mechanics (QM) and its application to standard problems, none take into account the developments in the foundations of the subject which have taken place in the last few decades. There are specialized treatises on various aspects of the foundations of QM, but none that integrate those topics with the standard material. This book aims to remove that unfortunate dichotomy, which has divorced the practical aspects of the subject from the interpretation and broader implications of the theory. In this edition a new chapter on quantum information is added. As the topic is still in a state of rapid development, a comprehensive treatment is not feasible. The emphasis is on the fundamental principles and some key applications, including quantum cryptography, teleportation of states, and quantum computing. The impact of quantum information theory on the foundations of quantum mechanics is discussed. In addition, there are minor revisions to several chapters. The book is intended primarily as a graduate level textbook, but it will also be of interest to physicists and philosophers who study the foundations of QM. Parts of it can be used by senior undergraduates too.

Quantum Mechanics and Gravity By Prof. Mendel Sachs (auth.)
2004 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 3642056415 | PDF | 4 MB
This book describes a paradigm change in modern physics from the philosophy and mathematical expression of the quantum theory to those of general relativity. The approach applies to all domains - from elementary particles to cosmology. The change is from the positivistic views in which atomism, nondeterminism and measurement are fundamental, to a holistic view in realism, wherein matter - electrons, galaxies, - are correlated modes of a single continuum, the universe. A field that unifies electromagnetism, gravity and inertia is demonstrated explicitly, with new predictions, in terms of quaternion and spinor field equations in a curved spacetime. Quantum mechanics emerges as a linear, flatspace approximation for the equations of inertia in general relativity.

Quantum Mechanics: Symbolism of Atomic Measurements By Julian Schwinger (auth.), Dr. Berthold-Georg Englert (eds.)
2001 | 484 Pages | ISBN: 3642074677 | PDF | 9 MB
Julian Schwinger, who shared the 1965 Nobel Prize for physics with Richard Feynman and Sin-Itiro Tomonaga for his pioneering work on quantum electrodynamics, had a considerable influence on the conceptual development of modern quantum field theory. In addition to being an extremely productive researcher he was also a brilliant teacher, and this book demonstrates his outstanding ability to expose a difficult subject in a clear and concise style. In marked contrast to many textbooks on quantum physics, the whole of quantum kinematics and the underlying quantum action principle, which now bears his name, are derived through a systematic analysis of experimental phenomena, thus avoiding the ad hoc postulates of the axiomatic approach. Many applications, all worked out in detail, follow and culminate in an introduction to quantum electrodynamics.A unique legacy, these lecture notes of Schwingers course held at the University of California at Los Angeles were carefully edited by his former collaborator Berthold-Georg Englert and constitute both a self-contained textbook on quantum mechanics and an indispensable source of reference on this fundamental subject by one of the foremost thinkers of twentieth century physics.

Quantum Mechanics
by Richard Fitzpatrick

English | 2015 | ISBN: 9814689947 | 484 Pages | PDF (True) | 3 MB

Quantum mechanics was developed during the first few decades of the twentieth century via a series of inspired guesses made by various physicists, including Planck, Einstein, Bohr, Schroedinger, Heisenberg, Pauli, and Dirac. All these scientists were trying to construct a self-consistent theory of microscopic dynamics that was compatible with experimental observations. The purpose of this book is to present quantum mechanics in a clear, concise, and systematic fashion, starting from the fundamental postulates, and developing the theory in as logical a manner as possible. Topics covered in the book include the fundamental postulates of quantum mechanics, angular momentum, time-independent and time-dependent perturbation theory, scattering theory, identical particles, and relativistic electron theory.

Quest for Love: Memoir of a Child Sex Slave
by Anneke Lucas
English | 2022 | ASIN: B0B4FV3982 | 300 Pages | ePUB | 0.59 MB

This memoir invites the reader into the heart and mind of a young Belgian girl as she shares events out of one year of her life, her voice supported by the vocabulary and understanding of the adult author. The child's circumstances are brutal; she is being sold by a mentally ill mother into a murderous pedophile network. Radar Array Design Using Optimization Theory
by Guolong Cui, Junli Liang, Bin Liao, Xiangrong Wang and Lingjiang Kong

English | 2024 | ISBN: 183953933X | 337 pages | True PDF | 22.21 MB

Radar array design aims at shaping a specific transmit/receive beampattern through optimizing array geometry, transmit waveform, and transmit/receive weight vectors. It is a hot topic among the scientific and industrial communities due to the advent of modern digital arrays with multiple digital transmit and receive channels, arbitrary digital waveform generators, and solid-state transmitters. The radar array beampattern is a critical performance metric, and there has been a proliferation of techniques for radar array design exploiting the mathematical results drawn from optimisation theory.
This book provides an overview of radar beampattern synthesis based on optimised array design. Some of the most challenging application fields are explored, including phased array beampattern, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) beampattern in the presence of clutter, jamming, and congested environments. Innovative and sophisticated instruments from optimization theory, such as alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), coordinate descent technique, semidefinite relaxation, rank-one matrix decomposition, Lagrange duality theory, fractional programming, convex approximation, Pareto optimization, and machine learning (ML) are framed in the context of radar array design.
Providing a rigorous mathematical approach corroborated with a wealth of numerical study cases, chapters emphasize both theoretical results and practical applications, demonstrating the potential benefits achievable in radar array design through the utilization of modern optimization theory. A common list of symbols and extensive cross referencing has been undertaken so that the related material can be easily found. The cross-fertilization of recent research and discoveries in optimization theory is explored.
Radar Array Design using Optimization Theory is intended for systems engineers and their managers within the aerospace and defense sector, technical personnel in procurement agencies and their advisory teams, as well as academic researchers and students pursuing MSc and PhD degrees in signal processing, electrical engineering, and optimization theory.

Rasch Models: Foundations, Recent Developments, and Applications By Ivo W. Molenaar (auth.), Gerhard H. Fischer, Ivo W. Molenaar (eds.)
1995 | 436 Pages | ISBN: 1461287049 | PDF | 14 MB
Thirty-two years after the publication of the legendary 'Rasch book' (Rasch, 1960), the rich literature on the Rasch model and its extensions was scattered in journals and many less accessible sources, including 'grey' literature. When asked by students or junior researchers for references to the Rasch model, it was a typical reaction on the part of the editors to state that it was difficult to name one, or just a few; actually, only a whole list of references differing in notation and level of formal abstraction seemed to meet the request in most cases. Therefore, in 1992 the editors decided to invite a number of outstanding authors in the field of Rasch modeling to contribute to a book presenting the current state of knowledge about Rasch models. The aim was not just to collect a number of papers on the subject, rather to produce a well-organized monograph. To this end, a workshop was held in Vienna from 25 to 27 February 1993 in which, after a process of mutual reviewing, drafts of all chapters were read and discussed by all authors, leading to a more systematic organization of the topics treated in unified notation and terminology. (The workshop was sponsored by the University of Vienna; here, the editors would like to express their thanks, in the name of all contributors, both for the financial support and for the hospitality granted.

Raum und Zeit: Vom Weltall zu den Extradimensionen - von der Sanduhr zum Spinschaum By Dr. Andreas Müller (auth.)
2013 | 209 Pages | ISBN: 3827428580 | PDF | 3 MB

Raum Zeit Relativität: Relativistische Phänomene in Theorie und Beispiel By Roman Sexl, Herbert Kurt Schmidt (auth.)
2000 | 208 Pages | ISBN: 3540415491 | PDF | 17 MB

Reaction-Diffusion Automata: Phenomenology, Localisations, Computation By Andrew Adamatzky (auth.)
2013 | 330 Pages | ISBN: 364231077X | PDF | 78 MB
Reaction-diffusion and excitable media are amongst most intriguing substrates. Despite apparent simplicity of the physical processes involved the media exhibit a wide range of amazing patterns: from target and spiral waves to travelling localisations and stationary breathing patterns. These media are at the heart of most natural processes, including morphogenesis of living beings, geological formations, nervous and muscular activity, and socio-economic developments. This book explores a minimalist paradigm of studying reaction-diffusion and excitable media using locally-connected networks of finite-state machines: cellular automata and automata on proximity graphs. Cellular automata are marvellous objects per se because they show us how to generate and manage complexity using very simple rules of dynamical transitions. When combined with the reaction-diffusion paradigm the cellular automata become an essential user-friendly tool for modelling natural systems and designing future and emergent computing architectures. The book brings together hot topics of non-linear sciences, complexity, and future and emergent computing. It shows how to discover propagating localisation and perform computation with them in very simple two-dimensional automaton models. Paradigms, models and implementations presented in the book strengthen the theoretical foundations in the area for future and emergent computing and lay key stones towards physical embodied information processing systems.
