One of the most widely used file formats out there is PDF, due to its numerous advantages. Not that it is cross-platform, but it also is compact, secure and ensures graphic integrity, displaying the content exactly the same regardless of the device it is viewed on.

Manipulating PDF files requires dedicated tools and, aside from the popular names, there are also editors and viewers that might just catch our attention, given their feature set. PDF Assist is one example and reading on will surely explain why.

PDF Assist is a full-featured PDF manipulation tool that not only works as a PDF viewer, but also comes with options to annotate a document, organize pages, hide sensitive content or encrypt a file altogether, convert, merge and split PDF files. While not an editor, it comes with a plethora of other functions that might be of great help when dealing with content shared in PDF format.

Annotation and redaction of sensitive content
The available annotation tools enable you to highlight important content in the text, underline, strikethrough and markup text sections. A generous collection of predefined shapes and stamps is available for you to overlay onto the document's pages, while the free hand drawing tool makes it possible to draw the viewer's attention to a particular area in the document. Moreover, sticky notes can be attached to the document to write down important observations, much like comments, but a bit more visible.

Sensitive content inside a PDF file can be redacted and completely removed, if needed. PDF Assist uses custom overlay text to automatically conceal common areas such as phone numbers, dates, NI numbers, tax references, and so on.

Merge, split, convert and protect PDF files
Not only can PDF Assist be used for manipulating the contents of a PDF file, but it also comes with options to work with the document itself. It features options to merge and split documents, as well as an integrated converter that comes with support for various other formats. You can use the latter to convert to and from PDF format.

Since sometimes PDF documents include images, developers of PDF Assist integrated an OCR module inside PDF Assist. This way, you can easily extract text from a document that only contains pictures, and save the output to PDF or text.

A few security-related functions are also available with PDF Assist. PDF documents can be encrypted and password-protected, while a text watermark is bound to protect intellectual property.

Memtest86 is considered by the majority of the hardware testing community the number one application when it comes to defective RAM sticks. The answer to the question regarding the working state of the installed memory modules comes fast with Memtest86 and that is what matters the most besides the certainty of the verdict.

There are many good approaches for testing memory. However, many tests simply throw some patterns at memory without much thought or knowledge of memory architecture or how errors can best be detected. This works fine for hard memory failures but does little to find intermittent errors. BIOS based memory tests are useless for finding intermittent memory errors.
RAM chips consist of a large array of tightly packed memory cells, one for each bit of data. The vast majority of the intermittent failures are a result of interaction between these memory cells. Often writing a memory cell can cause one of the adjacent cells to be written with the same data. An effective memory test attempts to test for this condition. Therefore, an ideal strategy for testing memory would be the following
Write a cell with a zero.
Write all of the adjacent cells with a one, one or more times.
Check that the first cell still has a zero.
It should be obvious that this strategy requires an exact knowledge of how the memory cells are laid out on the chip. In addition there are a never ending number of possible chip layouts for different chip types and manufacturers making this strategy impractical. However, there are testing algorithms that can approximate this ideal and MemTest86does just this.

We've added many major new features in Band-in-a-Box® 2026 for Windows®! The program now features a sleek, modern GUI redesign across all areas, including toolbars, windows, and workflow. A new side toolbar provides quick access to track selection, the MultiPicker Library, and other key windows. The Multi-View feature allows multiple windows and elements to be displayed as layered panels without overlap, creating a highly flexible workspace. Many windows-including Tracks, Piano Roll, and more-have been redesigned for improved usability and a cleaner, more intuitive interface.

We have an amazing new "AI-Notes" feature. This transcribes polyphonic audio to MIDI, so it can be viewed in notation or played as MIDI. It can transcribe the entire file (all pitched instruments) and all drums. Or it can transcribe individual instruments within the audio (drums, bass, guitars/piano, vocals). This uses an AI neural net to produce results that are accurate and sound very musical when played. Simply choose an audio file (mp3, .m4a, .wav etc.) of your favorite band/pop song and then choose the instrument(s) that you want to transcribe and destination track(s) for MIDI. You can get transcriptions of the instruments (bass, drums, guitars/pianos, vocals), which you can play standalone or along with the audio of the song. This is a great way to learn new songs, as you can watch the parts play on piano keyboard or guitar fretboard. Use this along with the "AI-Stems" feature, and you can also split the original audio into separate tracks.
